Ampicillin sodium is a semi-synthetic penicillin derivative that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). It is effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria. In plant tissue culture, ampicillin sodium is widely applied to suppress bacterial contamination while maintaining low phytotoxicity at suitable concentrations.
